telc B1: Exam Format and Preparation Guide
Understand telc Deutsch B1 reading, language elements, listening, writing and speaking. Plan realistic practice with clear timing and review steps.
telc Deutsch B1 is a general German examination with written and oral components. Its format differs from DTZ and Goethe B1. Use material labeled telc Deutsch B1 when rehearsing the complete test.

Train the combined written block
Reading and language elements share a time budget. Completing only short grammar exercises will not show whether you can finish both sections. Practise them together occasionally, with transfer of answers included. Use the official model’s score conversion and passing conditions; a percentage of correct app questions is not automatically an official telc score.
Make a diagnostic attempt
Take a fresh practice set under the stated conditions, then record which tasks cost time and why. Missing an unfamiliar word needs a different response from misunderstanding a matching instruction. For writing and speaking, ask for feedback on task completion and clarity, not just grammar. Keep the original response so you can compare it with your revision.

Anna: Unsere Lerngruppe möchte gemeinsam einen Film sehen. Sollen wir am Freitag ins Kino gehen? Max: Lieber am Samstag. Dann haben wir vorher Zeit, die Handlung zu besprechen. Anna: Gut. Ich suche zwei Filme aus und schicke dir die Zeiten.
This original exchange illustrates proposing, responding with a reason and taking a next step. Continue it by discussing cost and a meeting point. If one speaker makes every decision, switch roles and try again. The oral examination values direct interaction, so both partners need chances to contribute.

telc lists digital, hybrid and paper delivery for this exam. Confirm your centre’s format, identification rules, fees and timetable. General telc B1, DTZ and occupational language examinations are not interchangeable names.
