Goethe A2 Speaking: Personal Topics and Planning
Prepare Goethe A2 speaking with original personal questions and a planning dialogue. Practise connected answers, alternatives and clear agreements.
Goethe A2 speaking combines personal questions, a short account of your life and planning with a partner. Practise moving between these activities rather than preparing only a self-introduction.
The paired speaking exam lasts 15 minutes and has no preparation time. An exceptional individual exam lasts 10 minutes. Making notes in the exercise below is a learning step at home, not a preparation period offered in the exam.
Add one useful detail to an answer
A question such as “How do you get to work?” gives you room for an answer and a reason. You might say that you take the bus because the station is near your home. Keep the information relevant. If your partner asks about your weekend, a rehearsed paragraph about your job will not answer the question.
Original personal-topic prompt
Talk about cooking: what you cook, when you cook, who eats with you and what you would like to learn. This is an original teaching prompt. Make short notes, then cover them and speak. The answer below is one possible model, not an official assessed response.
Notice how each sentence adds information rather than repeating “I like cooking.” Adapt the prompt to shopping, sport or transport. Ask your partner one follow-up question and answer without reading. This makes the practice closer to an exchange than a recitation.
Original planning dialogue
Anna: Wir wollen zusammen Deutsch lernen. Hast du am Dienstag Zeit? Max: Erst ab 18 Uhr. Vorher arbeite ich. Anna: Bei mir geht es um 18.30 Uhr. Treffen wir uns bei mir? Max: Ja. Ich bringe die Übungen mit. Wie lange lernen wir? Anna: Eine Stunde. Danach können wir etwas essen.
Both people help decide the time, place and materials. In your next round, introduce a real conflict: one person cannot travel or the room is noisy. Give an alternative and confirm it. A useful final sentence repeats the agreed arrangement so both speakers know what happens next.
A short self-check
Check whether you asked a question, added a reason, responded to your partner and reached an agreement. Work on an unclear detail before trying longer sentences. Use the official speaking video and model linked below to recognize the task sequence; our original prompts supplement that material.
