Goethe A2 Listening and Reading: Detail Practice
Practise Goethe A2 listening and reading with original messages, matching conditions and explanations of changes, exceptions and key details.
At A2, you often need to connect several details: who needs something, which option meets the conditions and what has changed. Read for the requested information and listen for the final arrangement.
Compare conditions before choosing
If a learner needs a course after work and on a budget, an affordable morning course does not fit. Make a two-column note: required conditions and evidence in the text. A matching task asks you to connect those columns, not to choose the most attractive advertisement. Pay attention to words such as nur, außer, spätestens and kostenlos; they can change the match.
Original advertisement example
Fahrradwerkstatt: Reparaturen montags bis freitags, 10–18 Uhr. Donnerstags bleiben wir bis 20 Uhr geöffnet. Bitte vereinbaren Sie für größere Reparaturen vorher einen Termin.
Original task: Anna finishes work at 18:30 and needs a repair appointment on a weekday evening. Which day could fit? Thursday, because the workshop opens until 20:00. The advertisement does not promise that every repair is available immediately. Anna still needs to arrange the appointment. An answer claiming “no appointment needed for a major repair” would contradict the notice.
Listen for the changed plan
Wir wollten morgen im Park lernen. Es soll aber regnen. Treffen wir uns lieber in der Bibliothek? Um vier habe ich noch einen Termin, aber ab fünf bin ich frei.
This original script can be read aloud by a partner. It is not an audio file. Identify the proposed place and earliest available time: the library, from five. The park is the previous plan and four is a conflicting appointment. Ask your partner to replace the reason and times on the next round. Do not practise only the answer words; practise the relationship between them.
Make correction useful
After a timed section, find the sentence that supports every wrong answer’s correction. If you cannot explain why a choice fails, compare it with the text before taking another test. For listening, read the transcript only during review and follow the official playback instructions on the next fresh attempt.
