Goethe A1 Listening and Reading: Worked Examples
Train Goethe A1 listening and reading with original short texts, a number drill and explained answers that help you spot the required detail.
A1 listening and reading reward accurate understanding of short everyday information. Before each text, decide whether the question asks about a person, place, time, price or action. One familiar word does not prove that an answer is correct.
Practise numbers in their context
Write small sets such as thirteen/thirty, sixteen/sixty and a price with euros and cents. Have a partner read one number inside a sentence, then write the meaning: cost, departure time or house number. After correction, say the sentence yourself. This checks both the sound and the information it carries. In official practice, follow each part’s playback instructions; do not assume that every text is repeated.
Original message to hear once
Hallo Anna, hier ist Max. Unser Tisch im Café ist für halb drei reserviert. Ich bin schon um zwei Uhr dort. Komm bitte um halb drei. Bis später!
This is an original script, not a recording or official exam task. Cover it while a partner reads it. When should Anna arrive? A: 2:00. B: 2:30. C: 3:30. B is correct: “halb drei” means half past two. Two o’clock is Max’s arrival time. Reading the question first prevents you from selecting the first time you hear.

Claim: You can visit the office this afternoon. False: it is closed today. Claim: You can book an appointment online. True. Distinguish the available action from the building’s opening hours. These are teaching questions, not copied Goethe items. In your next practice set, underline only the words needed to decide the statement.
Review the cause of each mistake
Label errors as unknown word, confusing number, missed negative or wrong person. Spend the next short session on your most common cause. Then use a new text with changed details. Keep the first score from a timed attempt; a correct answer after studying the transcript shows learning, not the score you would have earned on first hearing.
